TrailMark

A mobile field-journal for hikers that works fully offline and syncs when signal returns.

React Native · Firebase · SQLite

01

Overview

TrailMark lets hikers log routes, photos, and notes without cell service, then merges entries across devices once back online. A concept exploring offline-first mobile UX.

02

Problem

Most hiking apps assume constant connectivity, breaking exactly when users are deepest in the backcountry.

03

Solution

I prototyped a local-first sync model where the device is the source of truth and the cloud is just another replica.

05

Challenges

  • Conflict resolution when two devices edit the same trail
  • Battery-friendly GPS logging over a full day hike
06

Outcome

A working prototype validated the offline-first approach; paused pending partner interest in the outdoor space.
