LedgerFlow
Open-source bookkeeping dashboard that turns raw bank exports into clean financial reports in seconds.
TypeScript · Next.js · Tailwind CSS · PostgreSQL
Overview
LedgerFlow is a self-hosted finance companion for freelancers and small studios. It ingests messy CSV exports from banks, normalizes transactions with a rule engine, and renders audit-ready reports. Built to replace a pile of spreadsheets with something calm and legible.
Problem
Freelancers lose hours every month reconciling bank exports across inconsistent formats. Existing tools were either overly enterprise or locked behind monthly subscriptions.
Solution
I built a local-first parser with a visual rules editor, so users map columns once and reuse the mapping forever. Reports are generated on the fly with a serverless query layer.
Architecture
Next.js front end talks to a Postgres-backed API via Prisma. File parsing runs in a worker queue to keep the UI snappy. Reports are rendered as static HTML for easy export.
Challenges
- Handling dozens of conflicting CSV dialects without a brittle regex maze
- Keeping the rule engine understandable to non-technical users
- Making month-end reports feel instant on large datasets
Outcome
Adopted by 40+ freelancers in the first quarter. Average reconciliation time dropped from ~3 hours to under 10 minutes.
